The bathtub. Although it can be a luxurious escape, cleaning it is also a dreaded chore. Tubs get very dirty quickly, making you want to avoid a bath at the end of the night. Most people haven’t found the best way to clean a bathtub. Everywhere you look, it seems there are more and more ways to tackle this chore.

If you hate cleaning the bathtub and shower, you are not alone. Whether you are a neat freak or consider yourself a “clean-as-necessary” person, it always helps to have a few new tips in your arsenal for how to clean a bathtub.

At Bee Maids, our goal is to help you keep your home clean, and that includes your bathtub. If you have tried everything and are tired of cleaning, call us and see how we can lighten your load.

1. Dish Soap and Vinegar

A fantastic way to clean your tub with little effort is by using both dish soap and vinegar. Mix equal parts soap and vinegar in a bottle with a spray top. After shaking the bottle, generously spray on any stains.

Leave the mixture on the stain longer if it is more set in. You should not need to scrub the mixture into the stains, either. Wipe away the soap and vinegar, and your tub should be as good as new.

2. Baking Soda, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Dish Soap

Another fantastic DIY method combines baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and dish soap. With these three ingredients you will be surprised how clean not only your tub gets, but also your tile and grout.

Mix 0.5 cup of baking soda, 0.25 cup of hydrogen peroxide, and one teaspoon of dish soap in a container. The mixture will get foamy and bubbly, but that’s what makes it work so well. Apply immediately to stains and watch them disappear before your eyes.

3. Dish Soap and Broom

Yes, you read that right. A broom. In this method, you will drizzle dish soap all over the bathtub. With a clean broom, start scrubbing. You will notice that with the scrubbing motion of the bristles and the cleaning power of dish soap, you will get through soap scum and any other build-up fast. Rinse everything down the drain when you finish.

4. Grapefruit and Salt

If your stains are relatively minor, grapefruit and salt might do the trick. Cut a grapefruit in half, dip it in salt, and start scrubbing. This method likely will not work well if you have hard water or long-standing stains. Either way, your bathroom should smell wonderful by the end.

5. Scrubbing Bubbles

If you are not into DIY or homemade, there are plenty of cleaners you can purchase at the store. Many home cleaners swear by Scrubbing Bubbles, a tried and true brand. After applying the cleaning solution, let it sit for five to ten minutes then wipe it away. The stains go with it, and you don’t have to scrub anything yourself.

Just like most cleaners, you will want to make sure the room has proper ventilation, and don’t stay in there too long. You might get a headache.

6. Magic Eraser for Cleaning the tub

If you have never used a magic eraser, you are missing out. These handy little sponge-like things perform a variety of tasks, and one of them is taking stains and rust off of bathtubs. Follow the instructions on the box for best results. This method does take a little elbow grease, but you will likely enjoy the end product.

7. Jetted Tubs

If you have a jetted tub, you know they are fantastic. But you also know that they get gunky and gross. But, you have to be careful how you clean them, so you don’t cause damage. One method many have turned to is using dish detergent. Pour two cups of your favorite cleaner into the tub with hot water and run it for ten minutes for a spectacular clean.

Another option is baking soda and vinegar. Scrub your entire tub with baking soda. For convenience, you can make a paste with water and baking soda. When you finish, fill your bathtub with hot water and add a cup or two of vinegar then turn the jets on for a thorough clean.

8. Shower Doors

If you have one of those tubs with a sliding glass shower door, you know it only takes a single use before the door has spots and soap scum all over it. To clean, mix equal parts vinegar and dish soap, then thoroughly spray the doors with the solution. Wait about half an hour then scrub and dry.
